Newton Prevocational school proudly hosted its Open Day on Friday ,17 April 2026, welcoming parents and prospective learners to experience the unique educational opportunities offered at the institution. The event aimed to provide insight into both academic and technical programmes available at the school.
The programme commenced in the school hall, where parents were formally addressed by key speakers, including Ms Kheswa – the school psychologist; Ms Conco – Acting principal; Mrs G.T. Mkhize – Deputy Principal; Mr Naidu – Boy’s Technical Departmental Head and Dr. Bankole – Girl’s Technical Departmental Head. Each Speaker highlighted the School’s commitment to holistic learner development, emphasizing both academic excellence and the importance of practical skills training.
Newton Prevocational School is distinguished by Its dual focus on academic and technical education. Learners are afforded the opportunity to engage in a variety of technical workshop centres, where they acquire hands-on-skills that are essential for future workplace readiness. These workshops cater for both male and female learners which include: – Hairdressing; Sewing; Early Childhood Development; Food Production; Metalwork; Carpentry; Building; Plumbing; Motor repairs; Panel Beating; Maintenance/DIY and Agriculture. These programmes are designed to equip learners with practical competencies that enhance their career prospects in an increasingly skills-driven economy.
Following the presentations, parents and learners were guided on a comprehensive tour of the school’s facilities. The tour included visits to the various technical workshop centres, allowing visitors to observe first-hand the resources and learning environments that support skills development.
The Open Day was a resounding success, providing valuable information and fostering strong engagement between the school and the community.
